No eviction drive in Burrabazar & College Street, clarifies KMC Commissioner
A minor dispute among youths playing cricket in Barakar, under the Asansol area, escalated into a violent clash involving firing and stone-pelting, creating panic in the locality. The incident led to two groups coming face to face, resulting in injuries to members of the public as well as police personnel. The situation remains tense, prompting heavy police deployment in the area.
According to reports, the trouble began on Sunday when a disagreement broke out among youths playing cricket at a ground within the Barakar police outpost limits. The argument soon turned into a scuffle, after which the matter reached the police station. Police intervened and managed to calm the situation at the time.
However, the dispute resurfaced on Monday morning, taking a serious turn. Firing was reported, along with incidents of stone-pelting between the two groups. Several people, including police personnel, were injured during the violence, following which police resorted to a lathi charge to bring the situation under control.
